Reflection
1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
I used photography has my medium. The struggles that I faced was setting up the camera because where I took the photo, there was not a lot of space since on one side of me there was this large case and next to me there was boxes stacked up.
2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists?
When I looked up photos of self portraits that show the different sides of a person. The photo that I drew inspiration from was this one picture where on half of the face, it was drag makeup and the other half of the face was the woman without makeup on. For the self portrait, I wanted to show the side of me that was non-competitive and the "school" side of me and the other half of me is this crazy competitive, don't mess with me girl and that comes out of me when I play softball which is why I have eye black on and my hair is back.
3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements.
I had many different ideas on what to do for this project. I originally wanted to print out a picture of me when I was around 6 and line it up to my face now. However, there was no picture of me facing forward. I also originally took this picture on a softball field, however I thought that it was too busy and I didn't want the background to be too distracting.
4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time?
If I could do something over, I would blur the background because it would make me pop more and I would also take one picture of me smiling and the other picture of me not smiling in order to show the two halves of me. In the future, I may redo this project and take that idea and make this project better.
5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
This piece doesn't link to my other pieces. My common thread is family and since this is my self portrait it doesn't focus on my family, it only focuses on who I am inside.
