1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
I chose to use photoshop and photography. I struggled with the picture of Zain and Zoe in front of the tree. That is because I couldn't figure out how to make the puppies be the main focus. After thinking about what to change the background to (black and white), I realized that the dogs still wouldn't stand out as much because their fur color is black.
2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists?
A photographer that inspired me to take a photo series of my dogs is Ally Anne Thompson. Her main subject in all of her photos is animals. She was able to catch the animals in their natural habitat and what they do for fun. For example, there is a photo that she took of a dog enjoy its time in a lake.
3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements.
The evolution of my piece consisted of a lot of pictures. Since I was trying to capture Zain and Zoe playing with one another and enjoying ones company, they didn't sit still and they were very squirmy which made many pictures come out blurry. For the pictures of Zain and the one with Zoe in front and Zain in the back, I made sure that they weren't in the middle and I followed the rule of thirds.
4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time?
If I could do something over, I would add more pictures to my photo series. While doing the silent critique in class, I got feedback from someone saying that a photo series is better when there is an odd number, so I will keep that into consideration for next time. I would also, change the background. It wasn't stage and now that I am looking back at the pictures, the background is slightly distracting and I should've changed it.
5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
These photos link with my other pieces because Zain and Zoe are new members to our family. I know that when a family gets a pet, it makes them happy and these puppies make my whole family happy and will always cheer us up.
