Reflection
1. Define which techniques you tried and mastered? Struggled?
I tried to master photography and photoshop. I struggled with setting up the camera and getting the lighting right. The picture originally had the dogs eyes glowing due to the flash. For photography, I had the hardest time trying to figure out how to get rid of the glowing eyes. After about an hour of trying to figure it out, I was finally able to fix their eyes.
2. How did you draw inspiration from other artists techniques or aesthetics in your work? In what ways did you derive meaning or gain historical perspectives from their work? Why these artists?
I gained inspiration from Sian Davey. He is a photographer who took pictures of his family. His photographs weren't just a picture of his family, but it showed the true meaning of love and happiness. I enjoyed Sian Davey work because he set up his pictures well. I loved the backgrounds that he chose and he allowed his main subject to really stand out.
3. Describe the evolution of your piece. Decisions made. Compositional elements.
The evolution of piece consisted of thinking about what makes my family happy and what in my mind describes family. I made many decisions of what background I wanted to use and I thought the Christmas tree would look nice, however now looking at it, made me realize that it was a bad idea. I should've used a plain wall so that the dogs and my sister would pop more instead of fading into the background. For the picture, I shouldn't have had us right in the middle. I needed to use the rule of thirds.
4. If you could consider doing something over, explain why you would do this and what you would do next time?
I would change the background because I personally think it is a distraction. I would also not add an much black around the edges. Even though it adds depth to the photo, at the bottom of the picture it is very dark and I don't really like that.
5. Elaborate on how this piece links with your other pieces? What is the common thread?
This piece relates back to my other pieces because it shows my sister and I getting along and enjoying ones company. Before my family got the dogs, we were distant and if we were in the same room with one another, we didn't enjoy each others company as much. However, once my family got the dogs, we have constantly been together and having a great time with one another now.
